Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is ready for Super Rugby clash

The Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA), which recently took operational control of the iconic Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, on Friday said that it was putting the final touches to its operational plan before the big show  on Saturday.

South African and Nelson Mandela Bay based Kings will tackle the Jaguares from Argentina in the Bay’s opening Super Rugby thriller.

“A lot of preparation and logistics has gone into making sure that not only the Stadium is ready but all the ancillary services that go along with a game like this one. The technical teams, security teams, grounds men and hospitality staff are ready to deliver on Saturday” says acting MBDA Chief Executive Ashwin Daya.

The game on Saturday is the first of seven games scheduled for play in Nelson Mandela Bay in the group stages. All these games will be carried live and broadcast beyond South Africa.

Super Rugby TV viewership has been estimated to about 20m and this game will definitely grab a slice of that viewership.

“An international game of this stature requires that we have our systems ready and functioning at a global standard. We believe our team has done a brilliant job in setting the stage for a thriller of a game” concluded Daya.

The Kings come off a moral boosting win over the SWD Eagles a few days ago are ready to dominate at home.

Kings COO Charl Crous says “We’re excited to kick off our campaign right here at home in front of our home supporters at this beautiful and majestic stadium. The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is our hunting ground and we plan to deliver an exciting game to reward our City for the support and backing we’ve received to date.”

Kick-off is 17h15; tickets are still available at www.ticketpro.co.za as well as the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium ticket office.
