'Nelson Mandela Bay the only metro to have increased resident satisfaction'

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, under the leadership of former Executive Mayor, Athol Trollip, and the previous Democratic Alliance (DA)-led coalition government, emerged as the only Metro in the country that improved its score on the South African customer satisfaction index (SA-csi) barometer in 2018, the DA said on Tuesday.

"This week a Businesstech report on the 'Best and Worst Municipalities in South Africa 2018' identified Nelson Mandela Bay as the only metro to show any improvement," described DA Eastern Cape leader, Nqaba Bhanga.

"The only metro to have increased its SA-csi score in 2018 is Nelson Mandela Bay – increasing from 59.0 to 61.9 year on year.

"This also places Nelson Mandela Bay in second place behind the City of Cape Town, also a DA-led metro."

Bhanga said that the Nelson Mandela Bay also increased the performance of its complaint handling in 2018 – by 3 index points.

"In 2017, the Nelson Mandela Bay was the second most trusted metro in the country and according to the barometer, trust in has delivered a stable performance in relation to the achievement in 2017," Bhanga described.

He added all of these successes were achieved in 24 months under the leadership of Athol Trollip and the then DA-led coalition government.

'Trollip's ouster will undo progress'

The DA-led coalition government was booted out office following the dramatic events that happened on the 27th of August, which saw Trollip, as Mayor, replaced by his one-time Deputy, Mongameli Bobani.

While the DA tried to fight Trollip's removal through the courts, the Port Elizabeth High Court ruled that Trollip's ouster had been done by the law.

"The African National Congress (ANC)-led coalition of corruption now governing our City will undo all of this wonderful work done by the DA-led administration," Bhanga said.

"The ANC will yet again seek to loot the coffers of the Metro and this will lead to a total breakdown in service delivery and ultimately trust and satisfaction."
