Ngqamakhwe police say woman was assaulted by her son

Ngqamakhwe - A 25-year-old Ngqamakhwe man is expected in court soon after he was arrested by police for apparently having a hand in his own mother's death.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, the 57-year-old woman died at the Dutywa Health Center.

"It is alleged that the mother went to the Dutywa Health Centre on Tuesday, where she reported that she was injured by her son," he described.

"She then passed away."

Capt Manatha said that police believe the woman was severely assaulted by her son on Tuesday, at about 19:30, at Bhongweni Locality, Hlobo Village, Ngqamakhwe.

"The motive behind the assault is not known. The deceased was identified as Ntombizandile Ngxoza."

He said that the suspect will appear before the Ngqamakhwe Magistrate's Court soon on a murder charge.
