Ngqamakhwe man jailed for 15 years for raping elderly neighbour
The Tsomo Regional Magistrate's Court on Monday sentenced a 40-year-old man, Fezile Sivanjani, to undergo 15 years imprisonment for the rape of a 67-year-old woman last year.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, it is alleged that the accused is a neighbour to the victim.
"On the 16th of July 2016, at about 15:00, he went to the homestead of the victim, at Lesotho Location, Mpeta Village, Ngqamakhwe.
"He found her sitting on the bed," said Captain Manatha.
"He then closed the door and then raped the victim afterwhich he ran away."
The victim reported the case at Ngqamakhwe Police Station.
"The Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) traced and arrested the accused," added Captain Manatha.
Eastern Cape Police has welcomed the sentence and congratulated Butterworth FCS Unit investigators for quality investigation, which led to the conviction and sentencing of the accused.
