Ngqeleni police arrested 83-year-old for illegal firearms and ammo after robbery

In an effort to fight proliferation of firearms, Ngqeleni police seized four firearms and arrested two suspects, one an elderly man, at Qinisa and Nodushe locality, in Ngqeleni, on Sunday and Monday.

"A 25-year-old man was arrested for possession of a 9mm pistol with seven rounds at Qinisa locality in Ngqeleni on Sunday, at about 13h00. He was also found in possession of 17 Mandrax tablets," said police spokesperson, Captain Dineo Koena.

"An 83-year-old man was arrested after having been found in possession of two .38 Revolvers, 50 rounds of ammunition and a Homemade Rifle with no ammunition at Nodushe locality in Ngqeleni at about 00h15 on Monday."

'Elderly man arrested after suspects interrogated by Ngqeleni police'

Captain Koena said that the members were led to the discovery by one of the suspects arrested for business robbery that occured at a local Spaza shop on Thursday and and seven suspects were arrested on Saturday night.

 

"It is through intensive interrogation on them that led to the arrest of an 83-year-old man."

Both suspects will be caused to appear before Ngqeleni Magistrate's Court soon and the firearms will be sent for ballistic testing.

"This is a great job by our foot soldiers. Let's continue confiscating all these illegal firearms," said Acting Cluster Commander, Brigadier Asogran Naidoo.
