Nine arrested for various crimes in Port Alfred back to basics operation

Port Alfred police arrested nine suspects after conducting a Back to Basics operation on Thursday.

“Nemato detectives who conducted a 'Back to Basics' operation, successfully traced and arrested nine suspects on recently reported cases,” said police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender.

“The operation which included local detectives and a member of the Port Alfred K9, under the guidance and supervision of the stations detective commander started at 03:00 and terminated at 13:00."

She said that a 17-year-old male was arrested for theft, while a 45-year-old female was arrested on a warrant of arrest for theft that took place in January this year.

“A 42-year-old female was arrested on a breach of protection order," Cpt Govender added.

“A 27-year-old male was arrested on a charge of common robbery. A 25-year-old male was arrested for serious assault."

She said that a 23-year-old male was arrested for housebreaking and theft. Clothing to the value of R870 which was stolen was also recovered.

Captain Govender also said that; “A 17-year-old male was arrested for serious assault while a 28-year-old male was arrested for breach of a protection order.

“A 24-year-old male was arrested for common robbery. A knife believed to have been used by the suspect was also seized.”
