No fire permits in George after 15 November 2017

The George Municipality will not issue any permits for controlled burns in the municipal area from next week Wednesday, 15 November 2017.

George Fire Chief Neels Barnard said the measure formed part of summer fire season precautions and would apply until the end of March 2018 – depending on the weather conditions and predictions at that time.

“Proposed land owners are advised to apply for permits from the George Fire Department as soon as possible as none will be issued after 15 November.

“The municipality appeals to all people who live, work and visit the area to exercise extreme caution at all times; to make fires in protected and designated areas only, and to dispose of cigarette butts safely. There is a long, hot summer ahead and we need everyone to help in keeping our region safe,” said Mr Barnard.
