The East London Regional Court on Wednesday handed a 25-year-old Sivenathi Msindeli an effective 35 years behind bars.

"This follows his reign of terror in and around the the Cambridge railway station since 2011 when he was only 17 years of age," said police spokesperson, Captain Mluleki Mbi.

"In June 2011, he attacked, robbed and killed a 55-year-old male, who had gone to look for his son's belongings after he had been stabbed and robbed the previous day.

"The accused was out on parole for other crimes like rape and robberies when he again attacked and robbed a 42-year-old male on the same spot in March 2017."

Capt Mbi said that the deceased's family and other surviving victims have praised the work of the police in the conviction and sentencing of this notorious criminal as he does not belong among humans.

The Cambridge Station Commander, Brigadier Pumla Mdlankomo, also commended the good work by the investigating officer, Detective Constable Siyanda Tyokolo, who has recently sent similar violent criminals behind bars.
