One dead others injured after car drives into the back of truck in Kirkwood

Detectives from the South African Police Service in Kirkwood are investigating a case of culpable homicide following a fatal accident at about 10:30 on Saturday morning.

"It is alleged that a black VW Polo collided into the rear of an 8-ton truck on the R336 close to the Piet Swart bridge in Kirkwood," described police spokesperson, Capt Gerda Swart.

"It is alleged that the driver of the VW Polo drove behind the truck and intended to pass it, when it allegedly collided into the rear of the truck."

A male passenger, in his twenties, who was travelling in the VW Polo, passed on at the scene.

"The male driver of the VW Polo, age 23, had minor injuries and was taken for treatment.

"The other two passengers, two males, were admitted to a hospital with injuries."

Capt Swart said that the driver of the truck and his passenger were not injured during the accident.

"The name of the deceased will be released after his next-of-kin was informed and the formal identification was done."
