Opel Mokka arrives

Following the recent introduction of the Adam and Corsa, Opel continues its local market resurgence with the launch of the Mokka compact SUV.

Based on General Motors’ Gamma II platform, which also underpins the Chevrolet Spark and Sonic, the Mokka has been an unprecedented success in Europe with over 240 000 units leaving dealership floors since its introduction in 2012.

Although available with a range turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, as well as the option of all-wheel drive overseas, South African market Mokka’s will for now only be available with a single petrol engine driving the front wheels through a six-speed manual or similar ratio automatic gearbox.

Consisting out of four models in two trim levels; Enjoy and Cosmo, the Mokka uses the same forced induction 1.4-litre Ecotec engine as in the Chevrolet Cruze, Opel Astra, Chevrolet Sonic RS and Opel Meriva, that produces 103 kW and 200 N.m of torque. While no performance or economy statistics have yet been made available, European figures claim a top speed of 190 km/h, 0-100 km/h in 10.0 seconds and a combined consumption of 6.0 L/100 km.

Final spec level will be announced after its official unveiling on Tuesday.
