Operation Fiela 2: Residents slapped with fines totaling R40 000 for illegal electricity connections

Motherwell SAPS Cluster police stations conducted a multi-faceted Fiela 2 Operation, which started on Thursday, at 10:00 till Friday morning at 06:00.

"During this operation SAPS were joining hands with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipal Electicity and Fire Departments," said police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge.

"The focus of the operation was to visit and inspect local business and tavern environment on their compliance in terms of their legal registrations and certification, as well as searching for stolen goods, illegal fire arms and drugs."

He said that during the operation, 17 compliance notices were issued which included two failures to display registration certificates, five for illegal building extentions, four for fire safety issues and six for illegal electicity connections.

"A total of R40 000 fines were issued on the illegal electrical connections," Capt Beetge said.

Operation Fiela 2 also nabs wanted criminals

"A stolen Toyota Cressida was also recovered in Mpondo Street, Zwide, Port Elizabeth, which was stolen earlier this month in Kwazakele."

He said that the vehicle was completely stripped and the invesigation has started to track the vehicle parts.

"Three arrests were made in drug related crimes and a total of a kilogram of dagga and 92 Mandrax tablets were confiscated. The estimated street value of the drugs about R7 000."

Capt Beetge said that another arrest was also made in terms of selling of liquor without a license.

"During the night, the operation was extended in terms of searching for wanted suspects where warrants of arrests were issued. A total of 18 suspects were arrested for various crimes ranging from murder, assaults, rapes and damages to property to drug related cases."

Motherwell SAPS Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie, has warned that "SAPS will continue these special operations to ensure that the law is respected and adhered to, and our communities are urged to join hands with SAPS to ensure a safer and secure environment for all."
