Over 110 arrested in Uitenhage last weekend, over R19 000 worth of fines issued

A total of 110 suspects were arrested by Uitenhage police for various crimes during high visibility patrols and stop-and-search operations that were conducted over the past weekend, between Friday and Monday. 

"These arrests includes murder, rape, robbery, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft and the possession of suspected stolen goods," said police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart. 

"Two persons were arrested for driving under the influence of liquor and 24 suspects were detained for the illegal possession of drugs. 

"A total of 38 traffic fines were issued, valued at more than R19 000." 

She said that the South African Police Service wants to encourage the community to come forward with information related to house robberies, car hijackings and business robberies, which can lead to the arrest and conviction of criminals.
