Over 40 suspects arrested in King Williams Town over the weekend

King Williams Town - More than 40 suspects were arrested in various areas by King Williams Town police over the weekend for various crimes.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa, they were arrested for crimes ranging from assault, robbery, drunk and disorderly, theft, robbery with firearm, drunken and driving, stock theft, contravention of Protection order, burglary residence, burglary business, house breaking, rape and murder.

"In a joint operation, police also managed to arrest a 24-year-old suspect for business robbery," Capt Mawisa said.

"Police have conducted these operations as part of their crime preventions.

"Other two suspects were also arrested at Izele for house breaking and police also confiscated an undisclosed amount of cash."

She said that police also embarked on a special operation where they focused on closing down all the illegal liquor outlets that were operating illegally in the Ndevana area.

King Williams Town SAPS Cluster Commander, Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga, commended the members for their great work they do in reducing the crime in King Williams Town and surrounding areas.

"The King Williams Town Cluster Police members conducted an operation over the past weekend and managed to arrest suspects and less cases were opened," he said.

Brig Ngubelanga also thanked the community for sharing valuable information with the SAPS and encouraged them to report any criminal activities to 08600 10111.
