Over 60mm of rain recorded in Port Elizabeth and Port Alfred overnight

Third Avenue Dip, Flower Reserve and the Airport in Port Elizabeth, as well as Port Alfred have received much of the rain that fell on the Eastern and Southern Cape overnight.

According to the Port Elizabeth office of the South African Weather Service, over 60mm of rain fell at the Third Avenue Dip, Flower Reserve and in Port Alfred, while several other areas recorded rains above 50mm.

"Numerous farmers from the Langkloof reported figures of in excess of 60mm," said Garth Sampson, Client Liaison Officer for the Eastern Cape at the South African Weather Service.

"This should give some good run off for our dams. Effects on dam levels will only be known later this week

"This is by NO MEANS enough rain to break the drought - use water sparingly."
