Over 70 suspects arrested in King Williams Town over the weekend

King Williams Town -Police in King Williams Town arrested over 70 suspects, aged between 19 and 56 years, for various crimes over the weekend.

"King William’s Town Police conducted several operations as their crime prevention duties and arrested suspects for different crime ranging from common assault, business robbery, contravention of protection order, burglary and theft, driving under the influence of alcohol, drunk and disorderly, intimidation, malicious damage to property and possession of drugs," said police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa.

"Detectives also had tracing operations where they followed up on cases that had been opened and managed to arrest the suspects.

"Police worked tirelessly making sure they leave no stone unturned and recovered stolen goods during these operations."

She said that in a separate incident, police made swiftly response to a business burglary that occurred in a business place next to a taxi rank in town on Monday morning.

"Police recovered the stolen goods and arrested one suspect; a thorough investigation is being done," Capt Mawisa said.

"These suspects will all appear in different Magistrate Courts."

King William’s Town SAPS Cluster Commander, Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga, applauded the members for their job well done and encouraged the members to continue with their crime prevention duties to fight crime.

“Let us create a safe and secure environment for all and ensure that the perpetrators are behind bars,” he added.
