Overbaakens woman robbed and raped in her home

Walmer detectives in Port Elizabeth are on the hunt for two suspects, who allegedly broke into a house, robbed and raped a 62-year-old woman during the early hours of Saturday morning.

"It is alleged that at approximately 03:00, the complainant from Overbaakens woke up when she heard the dogs barking," police said.

"After hearing voices outside, she phoned her neighbour and while still on the phone, the suspects kicked the kitchen door open."

Police said that the woman managed to lock herself in the garage, but the garage door was forced open and she was taken back into her house.

"They demanded money and took an undisclosed amount of cash from her handbag.

"One suspect allegedly raped her in the bathroom,| police added.

"They ran off when they heard the police arrive."

A cell phone, DVD player and cash was taken by the suspects, who were armed with a knife.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment.

A case of house robbery and rape is under investigation.
