Nelson Mandela Bay motorists have been warned to avoid paying their traffic fines through third parties as it could land them in sticky situations if they are caught at roadblocks.

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Director of Traffic and Licensing, Warren Prins, said the municipality never appointed any company to collect revenue from traffic fines on its behalf.

He advised motorists that they will be held fully-accountable for the payment of their fines.

"Your illegitimate transactions and discounts will not be recognised," Prins said.

"Representatives from these rogue companies are so brazen that we receive reports that they allegedly redirect residents from the Traffic Department parking lot to their premises.

"We understand that promises of discounts and other forms of amnesty are dangled before their noses. Please do not be fooled by these rogue operations."

Discounts on traffic fines can only be considered by approaching Traffic Dept's Sidwell offices

"A discount of up to 30% will anyway be considered when you approach our Prosecutor at the Municipal Traffic Court at our Sidwell Offices," Prins said.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality also said that it currently has an amnesty period for outstanding traffic fines of R300 and above.

"It started beginning December and ends at the end of February."

The municipality said that traffic fines can also be payed via the municipal website at the following link >> www.nelsonmandelabay.gov.za/council or into the municipal bank account via banks.
