PE Irish dancers have the world at their feet

The Irish Dancers from M.A.D (McWilliams Academy of Dance) took part in the SA Championships held at Beaulieu College, Johannesburg on the 28th to the 30th of September.

Their results were outstanding!

TEN of their dancers qualified to represent South Africa at the World Championships to be held in North Carolina, USA from the 14th to the 21st of April 2019!

  • Lauren Thompson

  • Channaed Oosthuizen

Three of their dancers were also crowned SA Champions!

  • Jemima Opperman 13 yrs
  • Channaed Oosthuizen 14 yrs
  • Shanna du Plessis 12 yrs and under

They also won an amazing 8 Pre-Championships and 1 Ceili (4-hand group dance 10 yrs)

Says MAD teacher Jennifer McWilliams: “Throughout the year our dancers have worked in the studio with complete dedication and commitment! It has brought me great joy to see the outstanding results that have been the outcome of this commitment! I am incredibly proud of each and every one of them!”

MAD PRO Vanessa Forbes says: “Don’t let the big hair and pretty dresses fool you! These young ladies train like Olympians!! They have exceptional fitness, flexibility, stamina and strength and they sacrifice a lot to be able to meet the demands of this challenging sport!

The studio will now be preparing for their year-end show, which will be held at The Savoy on the 30th of November and the 1st of December! Details will be posted on their Facebook page: McWilliams Academy of Dance.
