PE shooter shines in Ireland

Clive Taverner, the 64 year old Protea clay target shooter from Port Elizabeth has just returned from Ireland where he excelled in the world clay target championships in Banagher, county Galway in Ireland.

Taverner achieved 872 out of 900 points or 96.9% over 300 targets over 3 days of competition last week.

This included making the finals on the last day where he shot 147 out of 150 points, unfortunately just missing the bronze medal in his division.

“I am delighted with my results which placed me in 10th position in the veteran division and 80th overall out of 450 competitors from 12 countries” said Taverner.

The weather conditions varied from 33 degrees with clear skies to 15 degrees with rain and murky back grounds which made it a very challenging competition indeed.

Northern Ireland, England, Australia and France were the best performing countries.

Taverner departs for the Grand American trap competition in Sparta Illinois on Tuesday 2nd August where over 1000 competitors including many full time professionals compete.
