Pearson 1st XI results at Grey High Cricket Festival in PE last week

At the Grey High School 1st team Cricket Festival held in Port Elizabeth last week from the 5th until the 8th January, Pearson High School played four games of cricket – two being one day games with the other two being limited 50-over matches.

The local seaside school from Summerstrand played Jeppe Boys’ High from Johannesburg and St. Johns College from Zimbabwe in one-day encounters, while playing Westville Boys’ High and Durban High School, both from Durban, in 50-over games respectively.

Day one, Pearson High vs. Jeppe Boys’ High: No result due to lightning in the second innings. Jeppe batted first and scored 200 all out in 65 overs, standout Pearson bowlers- Rodwill Baatjies (3/26), Alex Draai (2/17) and Keeran Forbes (2/45).  

Day two, Pearson High vs. St. Johns College (Zimbabwe): St. Johns batted first and scored 39 all out in 20.2 overs, standout Pearson bowlers- Alex Draai (4/16), Rodwill Baatjies (3/9) and Eliah Barties (2/2). Pearson scored 140 all out, standout batsmen- Cody Roberts (55) and Rodwill Baatjies (38). In their second innings St. Johns scored 48/5 in 19.4 overs, standout Pearson bowler- Alex Draai (2/9). Pearson won on first innings.

Day three, Pearson High vs. Westville Boys’ High: Pearson batted first and scored 154 all out, standout Pearson batsman- Keeran Forbes (30). Westville scored 155/5 and won by five wickets. Standout Pearson bowler- Alex Draai (2/18).

Day four, Pearson High vs. DHS: DHS batted first and scored 119 all out, standout Pearson bowlers- Alex Draai (2/12), Deovaan Essen (2/21) and Raeez Harrison (2/27). Pearson scored 120/5 and won by five wickets, standout Pearson batsmen- Jarod Froneman (35) and Keeran Forbes (20).

A notable feat at the aforementioned cricket festival is that Grey High and Westville Boys’ High were the only two unbeaten school sides of the week.
