Pilot and his teenage daughter survive light aircraft accident in Still Bay
The South African Civil Aviation Authority will investigating another accident involving a light aircraft following an incident at Still Bay on Tuesday.
On Monday,a pilot lost his life after his light aircraft crashed in Port Elizabeth's Baakens Valley.
According to Arrie Combrinck, National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Still Bay station commander, at 13h03, the NSRI Still Bay duty crew were activated following reports of a light aircraft ditched in the Goukou River, just North of the bridge at Juliesebaai.
"The SA Police Services, WC Government Health EMS and EMS rescue squad, Local Municipality staff responded.
"Disaster Risk Management were placed on alert," he described.
"On arrival on the scene, the two crew of a Mohawk Light Aircraft were both safely ashore and not injured after they were able to exit the aircraft after landing in the river and they waded ashore into the care of bystanders."
Combrinck said that they are a 48-year-old man and his 16-year-old daughter.
"On consultation with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), NSRI were requested to assist to remove the airctaft from the water and the NSRI sea rescue craft Colorpress Rescuer II was used together with a local private rubber-duck and a local private man's 4x4 vehicle."
The aircraft has been removed from the water and CAA are investigating.
