Play On! - the latest Woodridge College theatre production

Woodridge College is busy with final preparations for its latest theatrical production called Play On!

From 26 to 28 March Woodridge College will be presenting the hilarious farcical comedy Play On!, from the pen of the American playwright Rick Abbot, in the Woodridge College Hall.

A group of amateur actors have decided to produce a play called "Murder Most Foul", a new murder mystery with the same title as an Agatha Christie novel but with no relation whatsoever, written by a local novice playwright.

Jarring personalities, budding romances, a famous jewel and a playwright who can't stop changing her mind (and the script) ... will the director and her cast and crew be able to get the show on the boards in time for Opening Night? The thespians may have bitten off more than they can chew!

The Woodridge production of Play On! follows hot on the heels of the prior award-winning school productions of District Six (2017), Almost, Maine (2018) and Alice Through the Looking Glass (2019).

Play On! will once again be directed by Caren Bestbier, Head of Dramatic Arts at Woodridge College. Caren has over 20 years of experience in theatre and drama. She is an award-winning Stage Manager, Lighting and Set Designer.

She won the PEMADS Best Actress award in 2016 for her performance in The Ex Factor, and the Showtime Best Supporting Actress award in 2017 for Careful.

District Six and Almost, Maine both scooped prestigious Woodlands Dairy Showtime awards and five of the actors from Alice Through the Looking Glass received Showtime Actor Awards.

What others have said about the production:

"A study of over-ambition colliding with general ineptitude ... Play On! ... offers a fly-on-the-wall view of an earnest community troupe ... attempting to stage a suspense play ... It soon becomes clear that the real suspense is whether the play will make it to the boards ... The conflicts, and laughs, only intensify as the play begins its run, and absolutely everything that can go wrong – on stage and off – does." — The Peace Arch News (White Rock, BC)

"Audience members will see what can happen behind the scenes as a community theater group prepares to open an original mystery play while the author continues to revise the script right up to opening night. Confusion reigns as the actors and technical crew try to adjust to the changes. Anything that can go wrong does." — Hudson Star Observer (Red Wing, Minnesota)

Tickets for the show are available electronically through Quicket (https://qkt.io/552uw7) at the price of R110 for adults, R90 for scholars and pensioners with block bookings for a minimum of 20 people at R70 per person. Further queries may be directed to caren.bestbier@woodridge.co.za.
