Police appeal for leads after 71-year-old Elliotdale woman raped in her home

Elliotdale police are investigating the rape of a 71-year-old woman, which took place early on Wednesday morning at Mhlanga Locality, Kasa Village, in Elliotdale.

"It is alleged that the victim was sleeping alone at her home on Wednesday, when at about 02:30, the door of her house was forced open," described police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"A man overpowered the 71-year-old woman and raped her."

He said that the suspect run away after the alleged rape.

Police need help tracing rape suspect

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu, condemned the alleged rape and has vowed that police will work around the clock to trace the suspect.

"Anyone with information about this alleged rape is kindly requested to contact Elliotdale Police on 047 577 0011 or Crime Stop 08600 10111 as the suspect has not been arrested yet."
