Police continue to monitor Port Alfred protest

Police in Port Alfred are continuing to monitor the situation following an early morning protest on the R67 byNemato residents.

"Two males were arrested and face charges of public violence," described police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender.

"Several sections of the R67 were blocked off by protesters who used rocks and burning tyres.

"Several police officers have also come under attack and were injured. Two of the officers received medical treatment."

She said that state vehicles were also damaged.

"SAPS will continue to be visible in all affected areas to ensure the safety of the community."
