Police investigating after four perish in N2 highway accident near Butterworth

Butterworth - Butterworth police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after four people died and another one seriously injured in accident that took place along the N2 highway near Ndabakazi, just outside Butterworth, over the weekend.

"The accident took place on Sunday, at about 14h10," described police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"Three men, one of them aged 46, and a 24-year-old woman all passed away at the scene. Another woman was rushed to Butterworth hospital.

"The ages of other two men have not yet been established and also the woman who was rushed to Butterworth hospital, her age has not  been established."

Capt Manatha said that all the deceased and the injured were in one car which was from Butterworth direction to East London direction.

"It is alleged that the car collided with a trailer that was pulled by a vehicle which was from East London direction towards Butterworth," he added.

"The cause of the accident is not known but is under the investigation by the Butterworth Police detectives.

"Any family that is looking for its family member can contact Butterworth police at 047 401 1100 or 047 401 1124."

Capt Manatha said that the two deceased men have not yet been identified.

"The identities of the 24 year old woman and the 46 year old man will be withheld until their families have been officially informed of their deaths."
