Butterworth police are investigating a case of rape after a 23-year-old woman was raped on her way to church on Sunday night at Mgomanzi Village, in Butterworth.

"She was in the company of her boyfriend," said police spokersperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"While they were still on the way to church, they came across two men. The two men demanded their cellphones.

"The boyfriend run for his dear life leaving his 23-year-old girlfriend with the suspects."

The two suspects allegedly raped the woman after failing to get a cellphone from her.

No one has been arrested yet.

Anyone who may assist the police in tracking the suspects is requested to contact Butterworth police on 047 401 1100 or Crime Stop 08600 10111.

"We advise women to avoid late hours when attending to any occasion as they become soft targets for criminals," warned Captain Manatha.
