Port Elizabeth police have warned those in possession of leased vehicles following a house robbery, which allegedly took place in KwaNobuhle on Saturday night.

"On Saturday, at around 21:30, it is alleged that homeowner of a house in Gwampi Street, KwaNobuhle, was woken up by a sound of someone forcing the backdoor open," described police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli.

"Immediately, two men armed with firearms stormed into the house.

"The complainant and his girlfriend were then held at gunpoint, while the other suspect ransacked the place taking three cellphones, a plasma TV and a laptop."

He said that the suspects then fled in a victim's leased VW Polo, which was found abandoned minutes later about three kilometres away in Philemon Kona Street, KwaNobuhle.

"Police are urging vehicle owners especially those with leased vehicles to install security gates in all their house doors so as to increase security measures," Sergeant Nkohli.

"This gives them time to contact police or create a diversion while intruders would be busy breaking the doors.

"Vehicle owners must ensure that the vehicle keys along with other keys are not left lying on the table or in sight when retiring to bed."

Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects is urged to contact an investigating officer, Sergeant Andile Gusha at 082 441 8139.
