Police need help finding missing Moyeni toddler

Port Elizabeth - A search has been launched after Avela Mavavana, aged 1 year and 10 months, went missing from her home at Ntshamanzi Admin Area in Moyeni on Sunday.

"The child was in the company of two other minor toddlers when she had gone missing," said police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender.

"According to information received, the grandmother whom the children live with, left the children in the care of a relative early yesterday morning at approximately 09:00.

"At approximately 12:00, when she had returned, only two of the children were at home playing and the relative was not at home.

"Late, on Sunday evening, a report was made to the police."

Capt Govender said that the search continued on Monday with SAPS K9 Search and Rescue from East London, East London Mounted Unit, local SAPS and community members.

"The community are reminded that there is no waiting period to report a missing person!" she said.

"Any person with information on the missing child to contact Warrant Officer Makina on 082 416 8512 or the crime stop number on 08600 10111."
