Police operations in Sterkspruit yield results

In line with the SAPS' Back to Basic approach, police Crime Intelligence in support of members of Sterkspruit Visible Policing held an operation in Sterkspruit CBD area and surrounding locations e.g. Mokhesi and Tienbank on Wednesday.

"While they were busy conducting high visibility and stop and searches positive information about a suspect in possession of unlicensed firearm was received," described police spokesperson, W/O Moitheri Bojabotseha.

"The lead led to an to arrest of a male suspect, 27 years old, for possession of an illegal firearm."

Three suspects, aged between 21- 31 years old, were also arrested on various charges including for possession of drugs. Among them was a a female suspect, age 21 years old, who was arrested for possession of dagga.

"All four suspects will appear in Sterkspruit District court soon facing different charges."

Aliwal North Cluster Commander, Brigadier Trevor Mey, commended the swift reaction of Sterkspruit Visible Policing in increasing Police generated cases.

"The recovery of firearm these firearms are used to commit serious offences lastly he also encouraged community to support police in their duties and always provide positive information," he said.
