Police probe robberies after two spaza shops robbed minutes apart

Police in Uitenhage are investigating two business robberies after two spaza shops were hit few minutes apart on Saturday night. 

"The first incident occurred on Saturday, at around 20:45. It is alleged that four men, two armed with firearms stormed into a spaza shop in Main Road, Nomathamsanqa area, in Addo," described police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli.

"One of  suspects shot the owner twice and the bullets grazed the right cheekbone and  left finger."

"The suspects then stole  undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes before fleeing the scene."

He said that the victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

"The second incident occurred on Saturday, at around 20:50. It is alleged that three men, one armed with a firearm stormed into a spaza shop in Armand Street, Kingstown area, Despatch."

Apparently, one suspect held the owner at gunpoint while other two men stole cash and airtime vouchers before fleeing the scene on foot.

"The suspects are known and the arrest is imminent," said Sgt Nkohli.
