Police searching for man after he vanished during fishing trip on Sundays River
A 39-year-old man is missing at the Sundays River mouth where he had gone fishing with a friend on Thursday morning.
"This morning, at 11:00, Kinkelbos SAPS and other emergency response units were alerted to a possible drowning at Sundays River Mouth," described police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge.
"This followed after a 38-year-old man, Ockert Erasmus, alerted that his fishing friend, 39-year-old Jacques Schamrel, went missing while being on a fishing trip at Sundays River Mouth.
"Mr Erasmus alleged that both of them were on their small fishing boat, anchored in the middle of the river mouth, when he (Erasmus) went to sleep. He alleged that Mr Schamrel was still busy fishing."
Captain Beetge said that when Erasmus woke up again at about 06:00, he noticed his friend missing from the boat.
"After spotting his friend's clothing on the shore, he beached the boat there and searched for his friend in the sand dunes.
"He alleged that by 09:00 after not finding his friend, he phoned his wife, who in turn notified police," he added
"By 14:00 police rescue teams and divers were still searching for Mr Schamrel who is suspected to have drowned possibly."
