Police to resume search for man believed to have been caught in rip currents

Police in Durban are expected to resume the search of a Pretoria man on Saturday after he went went missing in the surf on Friday evening.

According to Andre Fletcher, National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Durban station commander, at 18h00, on Friday, the NSRI Durban duty crew were activated following reports of a 20-year-old man, from Pretoria East, missing in the surfline at Durban's North Beach after he had reportedly been caught in rip currents while swimming before disappearing beneath the surf.

"NSRI Durban and Police Search and Rescue conducted an extensive search on the scene, but no sign of the man has been found," Fletcher said.

"Police Search and Rescue will continue in an ongoing search operation and police have opened an investigation."
