Police warn businesses of robbers posing as SASSA investigators

Police in Uitenhage have issued a warning to micro and medium loan businesses to be vigilant of robbery suspects, who are posing as SASSA investigators after a robbery incident in Uitenhage on Saturday.

"Today, at around 09:30, four men posed as SASSA investigators and entered Zhang Cash Loans in Uitenhage and also produced a 'search warrant'," described police spokesperson, Sgt Majola Nkohli.

"A complainant alleged that the men said to be visiting all cash loan businesses to inspect whether they are not keeping people's identity documents in the premises.

"The suspects, who are said to be wearing SASSA tags were given entry into the premises and when inside three employees were held at gunpoint."

he said that the suspects stole undisclosed amount of cash and employees' cellphones.

"It is believed the suspects fled in a getaway vehicle.

"Police are investigating a case of business robbery and following all leads," added Sgt Nkohli.

"Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects is urged to contact the nearest police station or Crime Stop Line 08600 10111."
