Police warn car owners after recovering two stolen vehicles in Kwazakele

Police have urged local vehicle owners to be vigilant this festive season as criminals are stepping up their efforts to steal and highjack cars. The warning comes after Kwazakele police on Tuesday recovered two stolen vehicles and arrested two suspects.

According to police spokesman, Captain Andre Beetge; “In the first recovery at 09:40 on Wednesday, a blue Toyota Tazz, which was stolen on 8 November 2017, in the Walmer area, in Port Elizabeth, was spotted and pulled off in Koyana Road, Kwazakele.

“Two suspects, aged 25 and 27 years old, were arrested and will appear on a charge of possession of a stolen vehicle before the New Brighton Magistrates Court on Thursday.”

He added that the second vehicle, a grey Isuzu bakkie, which was stolen in Humewood area, in Port Elizabeth, this past weekend, was found abandoned at 13:30 along Mkhumathela Street, Kwazakele, where it was hidden behind a wall.

Captain Beetge said that, to effectively police these crimes, police have also stepped up their visibility and crime prevention operations in the Metro.
