Port Alfred police investigating after delivery truck hijacked and looted

Port Alfred - Police in Port Alfred have been commended for their swift response after they recovered a hijacked delivery truck.

"On Monday, at about 12:20, members of the Port Alfred K9 unit recieved information of a hi-jacked truck on R72," described police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender.

"The members immediately drove towards Port Elizabeth and along R72, near Kenton-on-Sea, they spotted the truck parked at the Kariega Bridge."

She said that the police officers approached the vehicle and found it to be empty.

"The truck was on its way to deliver goods when it was hi-jacked. Both the driver and his passenger allege that they were transported separately to Port Elizabeth," Capt Govender said.

"The owner of the truck brought the driver to Kenton-on-Sea where a case of hijacking was opened for investigation.

"Both victims were unharmed."

She said that some of the goods and equipment that was stolen from the truck was later recovered on one of the farms along R343 Grahamstown - Salem Road.

"No arrests have been made."

Port Alfred SAPS Cluster Commander, Brigadier Morgan Govender, praised the young police officers for their swift response, commitment and diligence in combatting crime.
