Port Elizabeth police need help finding murder, attempted murder suspect

Port Elizabeth - Detectives at SAPS Bethelsdorp have appealed to the community to assist them in identifying a suspect that was involved in a shooting incident where a 22-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman were shot on Sunday night.

"It is alleged that at about 19:45, Johnty Phillis and a woman were standing outside a shop in Melkbos Street, Arcadia, when an unknown male approached from Jenniker Street and started firing shots in their direction," said police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu.

"Phillis was shot in his leg and back while the woman was shot in her leg."

Col Naidu said that Phillis succumbed to his injuries while en-route to the hospital.

"The victims have no gang affiliation and the suspect is unknown at this stage."

She said that a case of murder and attempted murder is under investigation.

"Anyone who can assist in tracing the suspect is asked to contact D/W/O Johan Ferreira at SAPS Bethelsdorp on 082 736 1030 or 041 404 3005 or Crime Stop 08600 10111 or the nearest police station. All information is strictly confidential."
