Port Elizabeth police need public help in locating fugitive mom

The Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Uitenhage, outside Port Elizabeth, are looking for a woman from the town after she apparently went on the run while facing child abandonment charges in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court.

The woman, Puseletso Veronica Setlai, 31, was arrested on 1 August 2014 after detectives successfully traced and arrested her on charges of concealment of birth and child abandonment.

According to Eastern Cape police, "The case of child abandonment was reported to SAPS Uitenhage, after a three-day-old baby boy was found abandoned on the pavement in Gerald Smith Street, Uitenhage at 17:20 on 19 July 2014.

"Setlai appeared in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court on 4 August 2014, where she was released on warning and the case was postponed."

She did not turn up for her next court appearance on 29 October 2014 and a warrant for her arrest was issued by the court.

The Uitenhage SAPS call on the help of community members to assist them with information on the whereabouts of Setlai.

Anyone with information can contact the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Llewellyn de Vries on 072 730 5810 or the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or SMS Crime Line 32211 to report crime anonymously.
