Port Elizabeth police seek public's assistance in locating rape suspect

The Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Port Elizabeth is seeking the community’s assistance in tracing an alleged rape suspect.

"It is alleged that on Saturday, 26 November 2016, at about 07:40, the complainant (24) was standing at the corners of Hanna Avenue and Van der Stel Streets in Rowallan Park, Algoa Park, when an unknown man emerged from the bushes," said police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

"The suspect walked up to the victim, threatened her and escorted her back into the bushes.

"He demanded money, her bank cards as well as the ATM PIN number.

"The suspect then took the woman further into the thicket where he pulled out a knife and allegedly raped her."

After the rape, he tied her up to a tree and went to withdraw the cash from the ATM.

The woman managed to free herself and reported the incident.

The suspect was wearing a lime green pair of sunglasses at the time.

"He is between the ages of 25-30 years old, slender in build and approximately 25-30 years old. He is an African male with a dark complexion," described Colonel Naidu.
