Port Elizabeth weather office says Monday a hot day with high discomfort index

Port Elizabeth records a high discomfort index on Tuesday

Port Elizabeth -  If you felt it was unusually hot on Monday, you were right. The Port Elizabeth office of the South African Weather Service actually advised local residents to seek the shade where possible.

"The temperature in Port Elizabeth is at 33°C with a discomfort index of 101 and rising," described Garth Sampson, the SA Weather Service's Client Liaison Officer for the Eastern Cape.

He said that the temperatures were expected to hit 35°C with a discomfort level of 105 plus.

"Schools in Port Elizabeth/Uitenhage and surrounds are advised to cancel outdoor sports," he added.

"All strenuous outdoor activity should be ceased," Samspson described. 

"All are advised to drink plenty of liquids (NOT alcohol)."

He said that the old and infirm should stay indoors near a fan.
