Possibility of electricity supply interruption to Thornhill area this weekend

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on Friday advised residents in the Van Staadens / Thornhill area of a possible interruption in electricity supply on Sunday and Westering residents of a planned water supply disruption on Tuesday.

The Metro said that to enable essential upgrading and maintenance work to be carried out, the electricity supply to the following areas will be disconnected between the hours of 08:00 and 17:00 on Sunday.

Areas bounded by:

  • Witteklip,
  • Van Stadens,
  • Woodridge,
  • Sunnyside,
  • Thornhill,
  • Matjiesfontein,
  • Longmore,
  • Loerie Filtration Plant,
  • Gamtoos Pumping Station,
  • Gamtoos River Area,
  • Gamtoos River Mouth,
  • Mauritzkraal,
  • Nocton Farm,
  • Savannah, and
  • Hansworth Estate.

"Line Codes: VMW, TFM, TBS, SLL, SGP, GVK, NFL. If the interruption to the supply has to be postponed due to inclement weather, the electricity will be disconnected during the same hours on the Sunday following the postponed shutdown," the municipality said.

"As there is no guarantee that supply will be off throughout the whole period stated, installations in all premises must be regarded as being live during these hours."

It  also said that the Water Division is required to carry out maintenance on the Van Riebeeck Street Watermain in Westering on Tuesday, 28 March 2017.

"In order to achieve this, it will be necessary to shut down the main supply pipeline, as a result of which sections of Westering will be without water from the morning of Tuesday, 28 March 2017," the municipality said.

"Work is expected to be completed later the same day.

"A water tanker has been arranged and will be deployed in the affected area."
