Premier Mabuyane hands over 129 new ambulances in Bhisho

Bhisho - Eastern Cape Government Emergency Medical Services is getting a boost on Thursday when Eastern Cape Premier, Lubabalo Mabuyane, hands over keys to 129 brand new emergency vehicles in Bhisho in a bid to improve provision of emergency health services in the province. 

Mabuyane, who will be joined by Health MEC, Sindiswa Gomba and the Transport MEC, Weziwe Tikana will announce allocation of the 129 vehicles to each of the province’s health facilities in districts to address ongoing shortage of ambulance. 

The investment into the procurement of brand new fleet by the provincial government will add into the existing fleet of emergency medical services the province has been purchasing to service the provincial population. 

The new fleet categories include ambulances, patient transport vehicles and response vehicles. 

During the handover, the provincial government will detail work done to improve the skills of emergency medical services personnel, report about work being done by government to curb the worrying hijacking of ambulances in some parts of the province. 

The emergency vehicles were procured by the provincial government’s fleet management entity on behalf of the provincial department of Health.
