Private security officer stripped and robbed in Ikamvelihle, PE

A 52-year-old security officer was allegedly robbed of his firearm, cell phone and bullet proof vest while on duty in Ikamvelihle, Port Elizabeth, on Monday night.

According to police information, at about 20:10, the security officer stopped outside a shop in Nkwenkevezi Street to buy food.

"A black VW Polo approached him and two men got out," said police spokesperson, Col Priscilla Naidu.

"One produced a firearm and disarmed the security official of his 9mm pistol with ammunition."

She said that the men stripped him of his bullet proof vest and took his cellphone.

"The guard was ordered to lie on the ground and the keys to his vehicle was taken before they drove off," said Col Naidu.

"No one was injured and police are investigating a case of robbery. No arrests."
