George Municipality's Project Hope, an entrepreneurial project for the upliftment of women who do not have an income and are currently overnighting at the George Nightshelter, has been invited to exhibit at the Eden FM Women on Fleek Expo this weekend.

The expo will be held at the Thembalethu Thusong Centre, Saturday, 25 August starting from 10:00 up until 18:00.

Ms Estelle Fredericks, Project Co-ordinator, says the municipality's community development department in collaboration with other role players like the George Nightshelter work hard to make a difference in people's lives.

Fredericks says they are very excited to participate in the exhibition and to get more exposure for the project.

She says Project Hope is an entrepreneurial project, consisting of a group of unemployed women who are currently without an income or shelter. This group of women uses their hand skills including beading, crocheting and knitting to make products to sell. The products are currently being sold at a stall in the open space in front of Standard Bank in York Street.

The income generated is used as income for the women, but in the early stages more so to buy more necessities to help the project. The job creation project was initiated by Community Development to motivate people to start entrepreneurial projects to generate their own income and jobs.

People are encouraged to support the women at their stall in York Street. If the community wants to be involved in the initiative to uplift our community, you are more than welcome to donate any donations in the form of waste material, wool or even beads.
