Property mogul Sisa Ngebulana named one of Africa’s top business leaders

East London-born property entrepreneur, Sisa Ngebulana, who created a multi-billion rand development company and listed the only black-owned property fund in South Africa, has been named one of Africa’s top business leaders by respected international magazine, CEO Today.

The prestigious accolade comes as Ngebulana – who hails from the Eastern Cape – hands over the reins of the property fund he started in 2010, Rebosis, whose assets he grew six-fold from R3,6-billion to R21-billion.

Andile Mazwai, a former chief executive officer of the investment group Barnard Jacobs Mellet, is now Rebosis CEO. However, Ngebulana remains non-executive deputy chairman at the property fund.

The CEO Today awards team opened up the voting process in July this year and spent months looking for Africa’s top businessmen and women to honour in their special Africa Awards edition, which features Ngebulana on the cover.

A spokesperson for the magazine said: “The Africa Awards edition is dedicated to recognising strong and innovative leadership amongst business leaders operating in Africa, across all key business sectors and industries.

“These awards recognise and celebrate outstanding leadership, superb strategic thinking and entrepreneurial spirit.”

In a statement, CEO Today announced that its research department had spent “the past several months carefully researching and identifying some of the most hard-working, ambitious and forward-thinking CEOs in Africa today.”

The special edition profiled senior businessmen and women in 13 countries who have been instrumental in achieving their companies’ desired aims and driving their business forward.

Editor-in-chief Mark Palmer commented: “It is vital for every business striving for success to have a leader whose diligence, innovative thinking and ingenuity inspire their team to demonstrate the same qualities and achieve excellence.

“We are happy that all of the individuals listed within the CEO Today Africa Awards are corporate leaders who aspire to these qualities and whose enthusiasm and hard work help their companies successfully accomplish their goals.”

Ngebulana said it was “an honour and a privilege to be on the list of Africa’s finest heads of companies.”

“It’s wonderful to have one’s hard work acknowledged, and – for me – a wonderful parting present as I hand Rebosis into the very capable hands of Andile.”
