Queenstown currently without power after substation caught fire

Queenstown is currently without electricity after a substation - the Ebden Street substation, caught fire on Tuesday morning.

It is believed the fire was caused by overloading and it is not clear when power will be restored to the town, now called Komani.

"Please be advised that the circuit breaker has tripped due to power over-load. The electrical unit is busy investigating the matter for the purposes of fixing it," the Enoch Mgijima Municipality advised residents before the fire.

"Everyone is urged not to use all electrical appliances at once as they are the main cause.

"You shall be kept posted on the developments."

The town has been facing power-related woes over the past few weeks.

Until recently, the municipality was among others that faced the threat of being switched off the grid by electricity supplier, Eskom, over unpaid debts.
