Quick reaction by police leads to arrest of Centane man for murder

Centane police arrested a 22-year-old man for alleged murder of a 20-year-old man.

It is alleged that the 20-year-old man was going home to Khantolo Village, Centane, with his girlfriend on Sunday morning, at about 02:30, when the murder happened.

"The suspect was walking behind the couple at a densely populated forest near Centane town as the couple was going home," described police spokesperson, Capt Jackson Manatha.

"The suspect took beer of the 20-year-old man and then allegedly stabbed him. The 20-year-old man old died at the scene.

"The girlfriend cried very loud and Centane police went to investigate. They were told that the suspect had ran into the forest."

Suspect expected in the Centane Magistrate's Court  

Captain Manatha said that Centane police looked for the suspect in the forest and found him.

"He has been charged with murder and will appear before the Centane Magistrate's Court on Monday on a murder charge."

The identity of the deceased is still being withheld until his relatives are officially informed of his murder.

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu, commended the Centane police for their swift actions in tracing and arresting in the forest as it was still very dark.
