Quick response by Port Elizabeth police sees alleged house robbers arrested

Port Elizabeth - Quick response and immediate following up of information by Port Elizabeth police led to the arrest of two suspects after an alleged robbery at a house in Booysens Park, Port Elizabeth.

"It is alleged that early on Monday morning, at approximately 01:00, the complainant was asleep and woke up when he heard a noise in his room," said police spokesperson, Capt Sandra Janse Van Rensburg.

"The complainant noticed an unknown man in his room.

"He was threatened with a knife, and the suspect took cell phones, cigarettes and cash before fleeing."

Capt Janse Van Rensburg said that SAPS Bethelsdorp Crime Prevention unit responded to the complaint in Coriander Street, Booysens Park, and immediately acted on information received.

"Two suspects, aged 22 and 32 years old, were arrested and detained on charges of possession of suspected stolen property and house robbery," she said.

"The suspects were arrested in Sapphire Street, Booysen Park.

"The members confiscated headphones of the complainant and also recovered the knife used during the robbery."

Capt Janse Van Rensburg  added that the suspects will be appearing in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court during the week.
