R127 million Mvenyane Road construction project launched

Life in the Matatiele, Mvenyane and Mount Frere communities will never be the same again given the massive development that is coming their way in the form of a R127 million road construction project.

Eastern Cape Premier, Phumulo Masualle, who was joined by Eastern Cape MEC for Public Works, Thandiswa Marawu, on Thursday handed over the construction site of a 56 kilometre-long road between Matatiele and Mount Frere.

A 100% black-owned company, Xesibe Constructions, won the tender to construct the road.

The first phase of the road - a 14km stretch, is estimated to take 18 months to complete.

Masualle sai that the road project was as a result of government working to improve the lives of residents.

He also used the opportunity to condemn the abuse of women and children.
