Rape suspect re-arrested after escaping from Zwelitsha Magistrate's Court

A 25-year-old suspect, Athandiwe Ludwaba, who escaped from the Zwelitsha Magistrate's Court on Monday last week, is expected back in court after he was re-arrested on Thursday last week.

"At about 17:45, task team members followed the information they received about the escapee, who was in town," said police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa.

"The Task team managed to re arrest him for escaping from lawful custody.

"When he escaped at court, he was appearing for a rape case."

He will appear at Zwelitsha Magistrate's Court soon to face an additional charge of escaping from lawful custody.

Acting Cluster Commander, Colonel Nomvuyo Mrwebi, thanked the community for the good working relationship that led to the re arrest of the suspect.

She also thanked the members for their dedication in ensuring that the escapee is re arrested soon.
