Red hot Audi RS3 touches down

Unveiled almost a year ago, Audi South Africa has officially revealed pricing and spec details of its flagship performance A3, the RS3.

Again based on the five-door A3 Sportback, the RS3 features a more powerful version of its predecessor five-cylinder 2.5 TFSI engine, which now churns out 270 kW and a colossal 465 N.m of torque.

A seven-speed S tronic dual clutch gearbox with paddle shifters again drives all four wheels via Audi’s trademark quattro all-wheel drive system, with the Ingolstadt firm claiming the RS3 would accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 4.3 secs, before topping out at a limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Underneath the skin, the RS3, like the standard A3 Sportback, rides on the Volkswagen Group’s versatile MQB platform that is said to have shaved 55 kg off the previous model. Fitted as standard with Audi’s Drive Select System, the RS3 also features a slightly revised Torque Vectoring System and sport Stability Control that that immediately sends power to the rear wheels when accelerating.

Standard spec also gone up a notch with the inclusion of Audi’s latest MMI media interface incorporating Bluetooth audio streaming, 19-inch alloy wheels, xenon plus headlights, RS badged sport seats, Nappa leather, auto on/off lights and wipers, flat bottomed steering, aluminium and Alcantara interior inserts, LED interior lighting and stainless pedals.

A five year / 100 000 km Freeway plan is included in the RS3’s R710 000 asking price.
